IntroductionTo understand Cold Creek Wellness Center's residential treatment program, you must first understand what our program is not. Cold Creek is not an exotic "resort" or "destination" type program. Meaning, our facility is not situated on the beach or other vacation type setting. In our experience "location" increases the price of treatment and not the quality. Does this mean Cold Creek is an impersonal institutional type facility? On the contrary, even the most discerning individual will feel at home in our beautiful and spacious home. Addiction treatment is about eliminating all dependencies, resolving complex co-occurring mental health issues, education, healing family relationships, and creating an aftercare plan to optimize post-treatment success. Locating Cold Creek in close proximity to a wide variety of providers and services has allowed us to create one of the nation's best treatment programs. Residential TreatmentNow let's talk specifically about why Cold Creek Wellness Center ranks among the nation's best residential drug treatment programs. The atmosphere at Cold Creek is positive, safe and peaceful. Residential Life is carefully structured to manage time, maintain routine, encourage cooperation, and create comfort through predictability. The program is designed to cultivate our clients' physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs. In this setting, assisted by trained counselors and specialized therapies, opportunities of self-awareness and recovery emerge. This empowers clients to see themselves and their relationships from a new and clear perspective. Through the integrity of taking responsibility for personal choices, clients learn to free themselves from the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that have underserved them in the past. The clinical staff at Cold Creek consists of a multidisciplinary panel of professionals who provide a team approach in creating a truly exceptional therapeutic environment. Our staff is made up of a Medical Doctor, Psychologist, Interventionist, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Equine Therapist, and Experiential Therapists. To help nurture and build a trusting relationship with each client we have staff member's onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week. AdvantagesThe first advantage Cold Creek offers is our limited enrollment. Research indicates that the most effective programs are designed around eight to ten clients. We maintain a staffing ratio of fourteen employees to eight clients. Six of these employees are counselors. This ensures that each client receives the individual time and attention required for a successful recovery. Residential clients receive a minimum of two individual counseling per week. Our center director maintains an open door policy for any urgent issues that cannot wait for a "scheduled" individual session. This is one of the reasons we have a 94% treatment completion rate. There is no substitute for the individual attention offered by smaller programs with less than ten clients. In larger programs details are missed, group therapy participation decreases, individual counseling time is reduced, clients are excluded as social cliques form. All of these distractions slow down the recovery process. The second advantage Cold Creek Wellness offers is our addiction free environment. Numerous studies support the effectiveness of eliminating all addictive substances during drug abuse treatment. Dr. Michael M. Miller, president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine addresses the concern that eliminating both dependencies concurrently would pose "too great a difficulty for the patient" and impede recovery. However, According to a peer reviewed article in the international journal of addictive behaviors, "smoking cessation was associated with greater abstinence from drug use after completion of drug abuse treatment" (Lemmon, Friedmann, Stein). Eliminating addictives substances, like nicotine, caffeine and sugar shuts down the addiction center of the brain and allows the fasciculus retroflexus, a small tract of only 200 to 300 cells connecting mid-brain and the prefrontal cortex (reasoning center) to begin healing. This healing process takes at least 12 months. Studies show that people in recovery for other addictions who delay smoking cessation can later relapse to their chemical dependency because of the stress of quitting smoking. The third advantage is one of the significant reasons why our program and others like it have some of the highest success rates in the industry. At Cold Creek Wellness Center we offer a truly "comprehensive treatment program" and "continuity of care." These are more than just marketing catchphrases; offering this type of all-inclusive service to our clients is the foundation of our program. This is the proof of our commitment to helping our clients succeed. Comprehensive treatment means we provide all of therapies and services necessary for the complete treatment of behavioral health and addiction disorders. Without question, overcoming addiction, and developing new healthy habits takes time. The brain needs time to repair the damage caused by drugs and alcohol. Comprehensive also means we administer treatment from a whole-client perspective. We work to strengthen our clients' mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. When it comes to treating addiction there is no quick fix. That's why our basic residential treatment program is 45 days instead of 30 and we include a 90 days Intensive Outpatient (IOP) therapy too. At a minimum our residential program includes 135 days of treatment. That's four and a half months of counseling, learning, and healing. Here is a list of the comprehensive services that are included in the price of our program: 1. Family Intervention Similar programs offer many of these services, but frequently they do not include every service in the initial price of the program. Another misleading practice is to offer these services only after they are determined "medically necessary" by the clients counselor. While some clients many not require an intervention or medical detoxification, we have found that when treating addiction all of our therapy programs are critical to the recovery process. Continuity of Care is a cooperative relationship where the same clinical team seamlessly handles all aspects of a client's addiction treatment, with no breaks, from beginning to end. This is especially important as client's transition from detox into residential treatment and from residential treatment into intensive outpatient treatment. Leaving a client unsupported during these times of transition is a common cause of relapse. This is an intuitive concept, but very few treatment programs actually incorporate many of these little details into their programs. Continuity of care is a hallmark of addiction treatment and is only found in a handful of the best treatment programs. Working with the same treatment team, at the same facility throughout the entire course of treatment is an example of the continuity of care inherent in Cold Creek's treatment program. Our clinical treatment team coordinates daily to review each client's progress. Consequently, they become powerful advocates; each member working to help advance the recovery of our clients. Finally, continuity of care focuses on developing a long-term client-counselor partnership in which our treatment team knows the patient's history from experience. This allows our staff to efficiently integrate new information and decisions from a whole-client perspective without extensive investigation or record review. This is a powerful resource after treatment, because our clients already have an established support system. Treatment Models & TherapiesCold Creek's treatment programs are based on the Bio-Psycho-Social and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment models. These models view addiction as a disease while taking into consideration that there are Biological, Psychological, and Sociological factors to consider when treating addiction. Clients enjoy the benefit of a Gold's Gym membership and participation in a diverse range of activities inside our facility and out in the community. Common activities include attending NBA games, go-cart racing, equine therapy, community service, hiking, meditation walks, and Broadway Plays. This approach allows our clinical team to work with and observe each client in different settings. Stages of Treatment at Cold CreekAt Cold Creek Wellness Center our clients complete a paced recovery that typically occurs in five stages. Each client enters the program with diverse education, life and social skills, and varying degrees of addiction severity. These differences affect the pace that each client progresses through treatment. Regardless of these factors, by the end of treatment each client will have completed the following six objectives: 1. Eliminate all physical and psychological dependencies. First Stage: Immediate Post-Admission The first stage of treatment involves stabilizing the client and alliance building. Clients are oriented to their new surroundings, a dual diagnosis is performed and individual treatment plan is developed. Second Stage: Promoting a Daily Routine Clients with sever addiction, and or co-occurring psychological symptoms often have difficulty establishing a daily routine and following a schedule. Our goal during this stage is to assess their capabilities and engage them in establishing a routine and following through with a treatment plan. Strengthening the mind and body through daily physical exercise, nutritionally balanced meals and sauna detoxification therapy is essential. This stage includes homework specifically promote self awareness. Third Stage: Psycho-education and Social Interaction In this stage the client begins to learn more about their symptoms in order to actively participate in their own recovery. The work of treatment is balanced by a focus on enhancing social, emotional and life skills. In-house psycho-educational groups, individual meetings with members of the treatment team, recreational and experiential therapy, service projects and outings in the community help to facilitate these goals. Fourth Stage: Aftercare Plan Development We see this as an essential stage in the client's move towards independence. At this point we can assess the client's ability to function in the community. Clients use the skills they have acquired in the program to begin identifying and setting both long and short term personal, career and educational goals. They work closely with their counselor to completely develop their aftercare plan. The client's progress is continually assessed. Activities and treatment plans are modified to suit individual goals. Fifth Stage: Community Reintegration The final stage of treatment involves solidifying the achievements and progress made by the client. Sustaining the progress made during treatment is a signal that the client is ready to graduate into our 90-Day Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program. At this point some clients move into a supported sober living housing, others step down to a community-based residence, and many return to live with family. During this transition our IOP program and aftercare program provide ongoing, education, counseling and support. We continually monitor each client's progress as they integrate back into home and family life. We maintain regular contact with each client after graduation to make sure they are thriving and succeeding as they look forward to a lifetime of growth and development. The drug treatment programs at Cold Creek Wellness Center are successful because we have created a "comprehensive" program; one where every client receives the individual attention, therapies and services necessary for the complete treatment of behavioral health and addiction disorders are offered in one program. Cold Creek is one of the few programs that offer "continuity of care," where the same clinical team seamlessly handles all aspects of a client's addiction treatment, with no breaks, from beginning to end. We are committed to each of our client's recovery because your success is our success. |
