Cold Creek Wellness Center is a 45-Day Drug Treatment Program for adults eighteen and older with all types of substance abuse, addiction, and co-occurring mental health disorders. We offer a truly individualized treatment program that includes 45 days of all-inclusive residential treatment, a six week family program with private family counseling, a 90-day intensive outpatient program and a lifetime aftercare program.

We are frequently asked why someone considering treatment should choose Cold Creek Wellness Center. The answer is always the same. In every industry there are companies and programs that provide superior service and offer substantial value to their customers. You are about to discover what makes Cold Creek Wellness Center this type of company.

The difference begins at the foundation of the company. The Cold Creek Wellness Center staff are educated professionals who are as passionate about this industry as they are about helping each of our clients achieve lasting recovery. We talk a lot about being a "comprehensive treatment program" and offering "continuity of care." For us these words are more than clever marketing rhetoric; they are a way of doing business. Our success is not accidental. We have methodically evaluated and selected the best therapies. Likewise, we only hire those individuals who share this vision and embrace a company culture where excellence and sincere concern for our client's wellness flourish. Explanations aside, what is most important are the numerous individuals and families who have overcome addiction through our comprehensive programs and residential treatment; because in the end, your success is our success.

The purpose of this "Program Overview" page is to provide a brief description of each step of our program from start to finish. Take this time to read about our residential treatment facility and discover what makes Cold Creek Wellness Center the only choice for individuals and families seeking recovery and healing.

 Intervention

An intervention is the most effective technique families can use to help a loved one suffering from drug abuse, chemical dependency or alcohol addiction. It is also the most ignored. Intervention is not an emotional ambush or an uncaring attack. Family interventions employ the power of love and sincere concern to overcome denial and get your loved one into treatment.

A successful intervention is the result of careful planning, preparation and technique. Often people think they've tried everything, but frequently family members have been inadvertently working against each other. If your friend or family member is struggling with committing to treatment, don't worry, we will guide you through the process. The key is to take everything one step at a time. Even though most clients do not require an intervention, feel secure in knowing we can provide this service if you do.

Medical Detoxification

A medical detoxification can be a tremendous asset to the recovery process because it seeks to minimize the pain and discomfort of drug detox, thereby decreasing the desire to keep using that commonly defeats the recovery before it even begins.

Some drugs like heroin, meth, prescription drug abuse of narcotic painkillers like Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Lortab, Vicodin, Xanax, and alcohol can cause an overwhelming physical dependence; sometimes even altering brain chemistry to the point that the body believes it needs the drug to function properly. As a result, exceptionally painful withdrawal symptoms are experienced when drug use is stopped.

Not everyone will require a medical detox; however, alcohol detoxification can be dangerous and even fatal. For your safety, we offer a free medical detoxification assessment to accurately make this determination.  Our residential treatment facility is open to anyone, including those suffering from addiction in California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and New Mexico.

Medical Evaluation and Treatment Clearance

Prior to entering Cold Creek, each client meets with our Medical Doctor who performs a physical examination and health history interview. Every client receives a TB test and vitamin B12 shot before entering the program. In addition to this intake exam, each client meets weekly with our doctor. These meetings allow clients to address any concerns regarding sleep, medications, and general physical well-being.

Dual Diagnosis

Someone who has both an alcohol or drug problem and a mental health disorder is said to have a co-occurring disorder or dual diagnosis. Co-occurring disorders are fairly common and present a greater level of complexity in diagnosis and treatment than addiction or mental health issues alone. Addicts commonly self-medicate or abuse prescription medication to deal with the anxiety or depression resulting from these psychiatric problems. To recover fully, both issues must be addressed. Too many drug rehab programs treat the symptom and not the cause.

We are experienced in treating co-occurring conditions and creating treatment plans that meet the unique challenges of these complex cases. We can help manage bi-polar disorder, ADHD recovery, trauma (PTSD), depression, anxiety, panic, personality disorders and many other issues. In addition, our clinical team has extensive experience treating most other addiction issues, like gambling addiction, eating disorders, sex addiction, and internet addiction (pornography addiction).

Individualized Residential Treatment Plan

Because every person and their circumstances are unique, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating addiction. To address this, Cold Creek offers a truly individualized treatment experience for every client. The individual treatment plan is developed during the first seven days of treatment. Clients receive multiple comprehensive psychiatric assessments that include psychological testing, addiction severity indexing, neuropsychological testing, IQ and reasoning assessments, and dual diagnosis assessment. These results determine which counselor the client will be paired with and direct the scope and duration of treatment.

Individualized treatment is most achievable in smaller facilities with ten beds or less. At Cold Creek we maintain a ratio of twelve staff to no more than eight clients. This way every client is assured plenty of individual counseling, and no one gets lost in a crowd. Our center director has an "open door policy" to address issues can't wait for a "scheduled" counseling session. This is one of the reasons Cold Creek has such a high program completion rate. Our clients know there is always someone they can talk to.

45 Day Residential Treatment Program

The treatment program at Cold Creek Wellness Center is the culmination of thirty years of addiction treatment experience and education. Our facility is a private and spacious 5000+ square foot home positioned on almost an acre of beautifully landscaped property. Even most discriminating professional will feel at home amidst our beautiful surroundings.

This is a good opportunity to make a distinction. Cold Creek is not an exotic "resort" or "destination" type program. Meaning, the facility is not situated on the beach or other vacation type location. In our experience "location" increases the price of treatment and not the quality. Addiction treatment is about resolving complex psychological issues, education, relapse prevention, restoring family relationships, and creating an aftercare plan to optimize post-treatment success. In choosing Cold Creek Wellness Center's location, we were primarily concerned with our proximity to essential services and access to public transportation. This choice has allowed us to offer one of the most comprehensive and individualized treatment programs to the greatest number of clients.

Our treatment program has six main goals:

     1. Eliminate all physical and psychological dependencies.
     2. Identify and treat any co-occurring emotional and psychiatric problem.
     3. Improve clients' educational, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, and physical health.
     4. Introduce clients to the Twelve Steps and Cognitive Behavioral therapies.
     5. Provide treatment to families and loved ones who have been affected by addiction
     6. Implement a post-discharge, continuing care, and lifetime aftercare programs to support a lifetime of sobriety.

The treatment programs at Cold Creek are based on the Bio-Psycho-Social and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment models, this and the specific types of therapies are discussed in Residential Treatment. However, to fully understand why our treatment programs are so successful it is important to discuss "comprehensive treatment" and "continuity of care." These are more than just clever marketing terms; they are the framework and foundation of our program. As you will learn, understanding comprehensive treatment and continuity of care can very literally mean the difference between success and failure.

Comprehensive treatment means we provide all of the therapies and services necessary for the complete treatment of behavioral health and addictions disorders. Changing long term habits takes time. There is no substitute. That's why clients who complete our entire program participate in a minimum of 84 days of treatment.

Here is a list of the primary services that are included in the price of our program:

     1. Family Intervention
     2. Medical Detoxification Scheduling
     3. Management of Detoxification Taper
     4. Medical Evaluation and Treatment Clearance
     5. Dual Diagnosis
     6. Individualized Treatment Plan
     7. 45-Days Residential Treatment - Minimum
     8. 6-Week Family Program including Private Family Counseling
     9. Nutritionist Approved Healthy Meals
     10. After Care Plan
     11. 90-Day Intensive Outpatient Program - Minimum
     12. Lifetime Aftercare and Continuing Care Program
     13. Insurance Billing services

Similar programs offer these services, but frequently they do not include all of the services in the initial price of the program. Asking families to pay for additional services during treatment can undermine recovery by placing undue stress on the client. Another misleading practice is to offer these services only after they are determined "medically necessary" by the client's counselor. Unfortunately, financial pressures, staffing levels and class size can influence "medically necessity." While some clients many not require an intervention or medical detoxification, we have found that when treating addiction every one of these services is critical to the recovery process.

Continuity of Care is a cooperative relationship where the same clinical team seamlessly handles all aspects of a client's addiction treatment from beginning to end. Focusing on continuity of care creates efficiency as disruption and downtime are eliminated.

Continuity of care is a hallmark of addiction treatment and is only found in a handful of the best treatment programs. Only those programs that offer a truly comprehensive program can offer continuity of care. Working with the same treatment team, at the same facility throughout the entire course of treatment is an example of the continuity of care inherent in Cold Creek's treatment program. Our clinical treatment team coordinates daily to review each client's progress. Consequently, they become powerful advocates; each member working to help advance the recovery of our clients.

Finally, continuity of care focuses on developing a long-term client-counselor partnership in which our treatment team knows the patient's history from experience. This allows our staff to efficiently integrate new information and decisions from a whole-client perspective without extensive investigation or record review. This serves as a powerful resource after treatment, when clients always know where they can get help.

Six Week Family Program with Private Family Counseling

The reach of addiction extends far beyond the individual. Addiction affects families. That's why we include a six week family program with our residential and outpatient treatment programs. The program is available to family members, and even close friends of those in treatment. Family involvement provides clients with a stronger, more knowledgeable support network. Our goal is to decrease the family's enabling or codependent behaviors that tend to impede the addict's recovery. Working with the family allows the counselor to intervene in any ongoing or unhealthy family situations that may increase the chance of a relapse.

Aftercare Plan

In the weeks prior to leaving treatment, clients work closely with their counselor to develop an aftercare plan that addresses career objectives, educational goals, individual triggers, behaviors and patterns of thought that might sabotage recovery. The aftercare plan is the client's roadmap to independence, wherein they combine the knowledge gained in treatment with our experience gained through years of successful recovery. The aftercare plan and 90 day Intensive Outpatient Programs are fundamental components of the continuity of care provided by Cold Creek Wellness Center.

90 Day Intensive Outpatient Program ( IOP )

Cold Creek's intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) serves two purposes. First as a continuing-care and aftercare program for clients who have completed our Residential alcohol and drug treatment program. Second, it is a standalone program for individuals who do not require the structure of residential treatment.

Combining a comprehensive IOP with a residential treatment program is absolutely crucial to a successful recovery. The objective of our IOP is to provide a bridge from the protective environment of residential treatment to the "real world".

The IOP program at Cold Creek Wellness Center allows for more independence, but at the same time requires that the client is accountable to the program. Each client must complete homework assignments, maintain strict attendance, and pass weekly drug tests. During IOP, clients participate in equine therapy, work on developing life skills, learn about recovery, stress management, and how to prevent relapse. The counselors address any concerns during individual treatment sessions and monitor each client's progress in completing the objectives and goals in their aftercare plan. The clients develop a support network and make new friends in recovery. The IOP program is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening.

Lifetime Aftercare Program

The recovery process doesn't end when a client completes our treatment programs. Even after completing our 90 day IOP program, clients must remain very proactive and committed to maintain their sobriety. This is why as part of our continuity of care we have included a comprehensive aftercare program. Every client who successfully graduates from our residential treatment program is eligible to attend a weekly IOP meeting for life. Through participating in the aftercare program clients receive the benefit of participating in ongoing support groups, and access to a counselor.
